Where should we start?
It is Sunday and we had a great week in Vancouver! Not only were we very lucky with the weather, especially compared to Calgary (they suffered and still are suffering from some major floodings), but also did we have the great opportunity to meet with two friends currently living in Vancouver.
Apart from that we kept exploring the various facets of the city. Here some insights:
Gastown with its historical steam operated clock:
Following Colombos recommendation we visited the Steamworks Brewery. It is really worth a visit and serves fine beer and is a nice place to dine. We degusted their beer tasting platter of each 5 very tiny but yet delicious beers:
I also successfully removed Martina’s stitches with these scary looking tools. Now I am feeling like a real doctor… Most important however, she is feeling fine again!
With Yashar we had dinner in Gastown and discovered some nice live music from a local band in the Blarney Stone pub:
And from Mei (Haifeng’s wife) we got a China town tour:
Followed by a huge and fantastic Cantonese lunch she invited us to:
Later on we visited the totem-pole collection in Stanley park:
And re-visited Gastown on Friday evening for their lively street concerts! There were bands from all genres and an amazing atmosphere!
Some of the last attractions were the Vancouver aquarium which features a 4D cinema and with its countless aquariums lets you get very close to all kinds of maritime animals:
With decent weather a lunch in the revolving restaurant over the top of Vancouver is always a rewarding choice and food comes for free compared to the prices of the visiting platform one floor beneath the restaurant!
Sad as it is, this was our last day in Vancouver. Today we will pick up our rental car and head towards Alaska! It remains to be seen how much comfort of civilization we will manage to maintain…

Andy I remember you being a pretty successful Doc during another adventure right? Good luck with the Alaska bears!
Hey there,
sounds great your adventures in Canada. Good to hear Martina got beer after all. 😉 Well done Doc A. Looking forward to your posts from Alaska.
This trip already looks wonderful! I am more than sorry now that Joachim and I were too lazy to get up and on a boat to Vancouver. The food looks great, especially the Chinese lunch, and the music and sights. Nice blog. I feel like I am with you on your trip.
It reminds me the life in Vancouver. Unforgettable memories.
It’s nice to escape from our routine with your blog!! 😉
