After a good night sleep on the Whittier campground we brushed away the remaining sleepiness with an ice cold morning wash at the glacier river right next to our campground.
Whittier is a cute little town located at the sea and completely surrounded by mountains. It is only accessible by car through an one lane tunnel which is also shared with a train.
After sightseeing Whittier by foot we enjoyed fresh and delicious prawn and a calamari burger at Varly’s Swiftwater Seafood Cafe down at the harbor.
Alaskan beer is nothing to sneeze at. We were pleasantly surprised!
After lunch and while waiting for the ferry to depart that stone just seemed to have the right shape for a nap in the sun…
Tini preferred the sun loungers on the deck of the ferry 😉
From there we watched an amazing landscape pass by as we traveled for around 6 hours from Whittier to Valdez.
In Valdez we headed for the slightly remote glacier campground. The decisive factor this time being the free warm showers 🙂
In the evening we started a small camp fire and enjoyed our dessert: roasted marshmallows.
And went to bed so late that it finally started to get dark around 1am.
