We arrived at about 12:30 am local time in Tahiti and were welcomed by ukulele playing and singing Tahitians. Our flight to Moorea was scheduled to leave in the afternoon and we had decided to save the money for the short night in a hotel. This meant we would be spending the night at the airport and could make another check on our bucket list…
This was our “camp” for the night: Andy unpacked one of our Thermarest mattresses and Tini made herself comfortable on the wooden bench.
Somehow the night passed and in the morning we dropped off our luggage at a storage and jumped on the bus to Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia. French Polynesia is an overseas country of the French Republic, located in the archipelago of the Society Islands in the southern Pacific Ocean.
To find shelter from the setting in rain showers we spent a lot of time at their famous market:
Admired the floral wreath most of the women were wearing, explored some new exotic fruits and got used to the fact, that everybody was speaking French.
Later on that afternoon we found a cafe with internet access and skyped our families for Christmas. For Tini this was the very first Christmas she spent without her family.
