After several days in tropical Cairns we flew south to Hamilton Island and past over parts of the Great Barrier Reef:

Hamilton Island is one of the 74 Whitsunday Islands which are a collection of islands of various sizes right off the central coast of Queensland.

In order to get to Airlie Beach we took the ferry and headed for the mainland:

In Airlie Beach we stayed at the centrally located YHA hostel and finally we got to enjoy our first Australian beach without warning signs:

Not far from the beach was a little restaurant serving tasty seafood pizza:

And chilled beer and apple cider:

We definitely got to like this place. The following days we “prepared” for our upcoming sailing tour by hanging around at the beach, working on our tan, frequenting the local ice-cream parlour and snoozing under shady palm trees:

Blue water, blue sky, beer and sunshine.
          What’s not to like?

We’re having the same weather in Northern California!
          Happy Easter!
          Love,
